The Historical Homes is an independent editorial and educational website about historic houses, architecture, preservation, and properties that may be or may have been offered for sale. By using this website, you acknowledge the following limitations.
Not a brokerage or professional adviser
The Historical Homes is not a real-estate brokerage, listing service, appraiser, home inspector, engineering firm, law firm, financial adviser, insurance producer, or preservation authority. Nothing on this website creates an agency, client, fiduciary, or professional relationship. Content should not be treated as legal, financial, tax, structural, environmental, insurance, investment, or transaction advice.
Listings, prices, and availability change
Property details may be drawn from public records, historical sources, owner or agent information, and real-estate listings available at the time of research. Asking prices, listing status, taxes, acreage, square footage, room counts, boundaries, included fixtures, and other details can change or contain errors. A property described as “for sale” may later be pending, withdrawn, sold, relisted, or unavailable.
Before relying on any detail, verify it with the current listing representative, owner, relevant public agency, and qualified professionals. Do not enter private property or contact an occupant in a way that interferes with their privacy.
Historic designation and alteration rules
Words such as “historic,” “landmark,” or “National Register” do not all mean the same thing. Rules may arise from a local historic district, preservation easement, deed restriction, state law, federal involvement, or another program. Requirements vary by property and jurisdiction. Confirm designation status and permitted work directly with the local preservation commission, State Historic Preservation Office, easement holder, or appropriate government body.
Inspections and environmental conditions
Older houses can contain concealed defects, outdated systems, or regulated materials. Photographs and descriptions cannot establish structural condition, code compliance, environmental safety, water quality, title, insurability, or the cost of repair. Use inspectors and specialists whose experience matches the property, including qualified structural, electrical, plumbing, roofing, environmental, preservation, septic, well, or other professionals as needed.
External links and third-party content
Links are supplied for research context or convenience. Third-party pages can change, expire, or contain information outside our control. A link does not guarantee accuracy and is not an endorsement of a business, service, listing, opinion, or transaction.
Images, names, and rights
Property photographs, archival images, trademarks, and names remain the property of their respective rights holders. If you believe material has been used incorrectly or needs updated attribution, contact us with the page URL, a description of the material, and evidence supporting the request.
No guarantee
We work to improve accuracy, but the website is provided on an “as available” basis and may contain omissions, outdated information, or good-faith errors. Use your own judgment and professional advice before taking action. Questions or documented corrections can be submitted through our contact page or the process on Sources & Corrections.
